    Dr. Vicki Belo

    Belo Medical Group

    CEO and Medical Director

The Philippines No. 1 Beauty Expert and Doctor to the Stars, this is what Dr. Vicki Belo is known to be today. Her craft is inspired by her goal to make the Philippines the most beautiful country in the world, one person at a time. Dr. Belo is constantly inspired to make weight loss and skin solutions simpler and more available to everyone.

Dr. Victoria Belo is currently the CEO and Medical Director of Belo Medical Group. She obtained her Bachelor of Science from UP Diliman and completed her Degree of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Sto. Tomas. She later got her Diploma in Dermatology from the Institute of Dermatology in Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Belo furthers her studies in Dermatologic and Laser Surgery at Harvard Medical School in Boston, and at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in the University of California in San Francisco.

Her efforts in promoting the business of Beauty in the Philippines has made Belo a household name, here and around the world. She has played a pivotal role in making the practice of Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery one of the fastest growing industries in the Philippines.

Dr. Belo’s vision is to make the Philippines, through Belo Medical Group, a one stop shop for beauty. BMG goes to lengths in search of the latest equipment and innovative procedures from all over the world and bring them to the Philippines. From 1990 when Dr. Belo first opened her clinic and pioneered liposuction and lasers in the country, they made sure they are in the forefront of technology and advances in the Aesthetic and Beauty Industry.

Now 14 clinic strong, strategically located around the country 12 in Metro Manila and 1 in Cebu City and in Davao City .We have also set our sights to the prospects of opening in our neighboring ASEAN countries. 2015 also marks a milestone for Dr. Belo and the company as she inaugurates the Belo Building that now houses the Main office of the Belo Medical Group, a clinic and an operating facility.

Belo Medical Group adopts international standards to compete globally. The company has endeavored to become the FIRST and only Ambulatory clinic in the Philippines to get an accreditation from NABH. NABH (NATIONAL ACCREDITATION BORAD FOR HOSPITALS AND HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS) is an international accreditation body for Ambulatory Clinics, Healthcare providers and Wellness Centers. Using the same standard and accreditation qualification as ISQua (International Society for Quality in Healthcare). The Medical facilities also carry the distinction of being the first DOH- Certified ambulatory surgi-centers for cosmetic dermatology and surgery.

Dr. Vicki Belo has the charisma which stems from her deep understanding of people’s aspiration to look and feel beautiful. She believes that Beauty should not be limited to a chosen few who were gifted with good genes. From the onset of the business and up to today, Dr. Belo has tirelessly conducted lectures to both small and large groups because she firmly believed that if people are educated about their skin and body, and the benefits of dermatological and cosmetic procedures, the more likely they will be interested to try them. She decided to use a more casual approach in these talks and use simple words and analogies to explain each procedure. She was able to bring “dermatology” out of the hospital and into casual conversations among friends. Her efforts successfully changed the perception of cosmetic surgery and dermatology, to not only be acceptable to a regular Filipino but aspirational.

In the process of growing the Belo Medical Group, she primarily employed the use of celebrity endorsers, who would greet and casually mention her name on air. Yet another pivotal communication strategy she utilized. The stars became her ‘beauty brand ambassadors’, living testaments to her expertise and bodies of work. Through the celebrity endorsements, Belo became a house hold name in Filipino Society.
Dr. Belo would always say “ Everyone deserves to be beautiful.“

In her desire to bring beauty within everyone’s reach, she with her daughter Cristalle Henares, launched a beauty line called Belo Essentials in 2007. The products are sold in all major drugstores and supermarkets in the Philippines and is recently being distributed already in selected areas abroad.

Happy Skin Cosmetics, BLK, and Seoul White

    CEO and Founder

Jacqe Y. Gutierrez is the CEO and co-founder of Happy Skin Cosmetics, BLK Cosmetics, and Seoul White Korea—three original and homegrown brands that were launched in the span of six years and are currently growing at rapid speed in their own respective categories.

The entrepreneurial journey of Jacqe began with Happy Skin’s launch in October 2013. Using her extensive knowledge of the beauty industry, honed through nine years of experience in Unilever Philippines and Southeast Asia, she developed Happy Skin’s entire market entry strategy after recognizing that there was a widely untapped market for a “masstige” local makeup brand that could offer premium, covetable products with a budget-friendly price tag.

Five years after Happy Skin’s launch, Jacqe remains hands-on with the brand’s day-to-day operations, which includes product development, marketing, sales, operations, finance, and human resources. This level of management has enabled Happy Skin to compete and adapt in the fast-paced cosmetic industry and to grow even faster than its category growth. In 2017, Jacqe brought her leadership and expertise to launch two more homegrown brands—BLK Cosmetics, which she created with celebrity Anne Curtis, who serves as the brand’s creative director; and Seoul White Korea, an industry pioneer that’s the first locally conceptualized brand in the K-beauty segment.

With Jacqe’s strategy, BLK focused on reaching a wider audience in the cosmetics category. It entered as a player in the mass premium segment, where 80% of the market is currently at. To date, it is among the top brands in retail giant Watsons, winning awards for Most Successful New Brand and Most Promising New Cosmetic Brand on the year of its launch. Seoul White Korea, on the other hand, is a new entry in the personal care category—the largest and most competitive segment of fast-moving consumer goods. Currently, Happy Skin, BLK, and Seoul White Korea are all enjoying growth in sales, as well as increased loyalty from the online community.

Through these three brands, Jacqe has built sustainable, fast-growing businesses that continuously gives jobs to Filipinos. Having won the Asia CEO Awards Circle of Excellence Young Leader of the Year in 2018, the 12th Mansmith Young Market Masters Award for Entrepreneurial Marketing in 2017, and the ASEAN Women Entrepreneur of the Year in 2017, she continues to pave the way for local brands and entrepreneurs to have a voice in the beauty industry, giving them a platform where once only international players could thrive in.

The main reason BukidFresh exists is to provide fair-trade and locally grown food while nourishing our customers with what has been so bountifully given to us by our farmers.

    Zarah Juan

    Manila Wear

    Founder / Designer

Zarah Juan grew up in a very humble beginning in Guiguinto, Bulacan. She is the eldest among four siblings. Her father was a government employee and her mother used to manage a very small food eatery.

She was her mother's little helper in managing their store. Before going to school everyday she would wake up early to help prepare ingredients for their food business and would spend hours manning their store after school. It was not an easy childhood. But she managed to maintain good grades in school. It was during this time where she developed a fascination in dressmaking and bag making. During off peak hours in their sari-sari store (small convenient store) she would find time to collect scrap fabrics from dress makers in their neighborhood and would make doll dresses out of them. This is how she would spend the majority of her time during her childhood days which brought about her skills in entrepreneurship and creative design thinking.

After graduating, she pursued a career in the airline industry. She worked for two years in Air Philippines flying as a Domestic Flight Attendant and would later on be accepted to fly with Northwest Airlines ( now Delta Airlines ). This experience truly opened her eyes in witnessing cultural diversity. It widened her perspective when it came to art, design, and way of life of other cultures.

Green Leaf Bags In 2005, during her stay in Japan she discovered the concept of green bags or reusable bags. She noticed that canvas bags and foldable bags were being in sold in supermarkets. She got very curious and asked a Japanese friend why bags were being sold in supermarkets. It was later on explained to her that in Japan, it has been practiced to bring reusable canvas bags in substitute for plastic bags. It can be noted that during this time, the concept of Green Bags are not known yet in the Philippines. She fell in love with the idea of saving the environment by just using a recyclable bag. She would later on make bags during her day off in the Philippines by renting a sewing machine in Evangelista Makati for Php15.00 per hour. She would commission a dress maker to sew her bags. Her canvas bags would become popular with her peers and fellow flight attendants. Friends would ask her to make canvas bags as souvenirs for special occasions such as baptisms and weddings. When the demand for her bags became higher, she purchased a second hand sewing machine and put it in her garage. She hired a bag maker from Bulacan to stay with her so that she can accommodate the growing demand of her bags. The first bags literally came from a backyard operation. In 2007, with the help of her husband she registered her very first business, Green Leaf Bags. From her garage, it later developed into a full fledge manufacturing company that caters to major supermarkets and department stores nationwide. It was also during this year that she decided to retire from flying and professionalize her business.

The Birth of Zarah Juan Brand After almost a decade of practice in manufacturing, her company felt the need to share what they knew in product development and product design. She joined the Gender-Responsive Economic Actions for the Transformation of Women (Great Women). This platform is a governance and capacity development project that aims to promote and support a gender-responsive enabling environment for women’s economic empowerment, particularly those micro enterprises. It is through this platform that she was introduced to different Indigenous communities concentrated in Mindanao. She believes her knowledge in manufacturing can be replicated in small scale communities to create sustainable livelihood. She started reaching out and developed products for them and created a market for continuous productivity. Together with Great Women she later on created her own brand for market sustainability. The Zarah Juan brand is all about collaborations with local artisans and indigenous communities. Here are the communities she is collaborating with: Bagobo Tagabawa from Davao, Mindanao The Bagobo Tagabawa Ethnic Community is situated in Brgy. Lubogan Toril, Davao south of the Philippines. They are a very vibrant and beautiful tribe. They have rich cultural traditions that is slowly diminishing thru time brought about poverty. They used to prosper near Mount Apo but because of poor access to health care, education and basic needs they slowly moved down to nearby cities. When the Great Women and Zarah Juan project started in 2015, a Bagobo Tagabawa woman had little or zero earnings from farming, working as helpers or from working in nearby wet markets. Through the platform, a Bagobo woman can now earn as much as 2000php per week, working at home while tending to her husband and children.

Tboli Tribe from South Cotabato The Tboli tribe are from Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. The Tboli women are impeccable hand embroiderers. Though their craft are beautiful, their source of livelihood is still not enough due to their geographical location. The Zarah Juan Brand collaborated with Tboli Cowhead Cooperative producing beautiful embroidered shoes and bags. And it was also through this project that they were connected to the number one Filipino Souvenir Store in the Philippines. There are almost 200 Tboli women participating in this program, producing souvenir items such as key chains, bracelets, necklaces and tinalak items. They now enjoy a consistently high volume order that provides them a sustainable livelihood.

Other Collaborations The Zarah Juan brand continuous to collaborate with different communities such as the basket weavers from Iraya Mangyan in Puerto Galera, weavers from the Ilocos Region, Weavers from Abra, Shoe makers from Marikina, Embroiderers and hand painter from Lumban Laguna, Embroiderers from Bulacan, and Leather Tanneries from Bulacan. All these are all part of the inclusive business that the brand is trying to uphold and support.
